The UK Domain

As part of our mission to provide small business advice we regularly publish helpful and inspiring content that covers the fundamentals of getting small businesses online – whether it’s social media strategy, web design or even SEO.

Over the past couple of years, it’s safe to say we’ve noticed the impact that new technology has had for small businesses in altering almost every aspect of starting and successfully managing a company.

From the introduction of applications such as predictive analytics, to business intelligence tools and the Cloud, all small businesses are having to adapt and operate differently to fulfil their customer’s needs.

For instance, the progression of data analytics has enabled businesses to gather valuable information on their customers in order to tailor their messages and provide a better user experience. After all, 85% of millennials are more likely to purchase a product or service if the message is personalised with social activity to support it.

However, it’s not just the way we do business that is changing – technology is evolving in the personal space too. Not only are consumers using mobile devices to shop or research businesses, they’re also turning to the web to help navigate through everyday life too.

The way people communicate is changing. Samaritans is a unique charity that provides free emotional support for anyone struggling to cope, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Samaritans wants to be available for anyone struggling to cope, via a real-time, one-to-one, written word service delivered directly via any web browser.

We’re proud to be supporting Samaritans in building and launching its new online chat service.

From 9th December 2019 until 17th January 2020, we’ll be donating £1 to Samaritans for every new, paid for .UK domain registered. Nominet’s Head of Public Benefit, Chris Ashworth, explains more in this video:
